We joined forces with Damn to build a capsule around the work of one of the most uncompromising figures in American photography: Larry Clark.
Clark started shooting in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1960s, pointing his camera at the amphetamine-fueled teenage world he grew up inside of rather than one he was observing from a distance. The photographs became Tulsa, published in 1971, a book that changed what documentary photography was allowed to show.
No distance, no judgment, just kids getting high, getting reckless, getting older too fast.
It's the same unflinching eye that later found its way into Kids, the 1995 film that made him as controversial in cinema as he already was in photography.
